Fun Fact: Ben was a part of an award-winning puppet group in his youth. They did, at their height, 70 shows per year. He is also quite good at making balloon animals.

Ben came to Pittsburgh 10 years ago from Buffalo, NY in search of warmer weather… Pittsburgh ended up being the furthest south he got, and thankfully, he ended up falling in love with the city. While the climate may be a tad different from the balmy island paradise Ben envisioned, Pittsburgh has undoubtedly become home, and is luckily less harsh than Buffalo. Ben brings a different perspective to the North Star team as a young, and yet very experienced, financial advisor. Ben is credited with having great "out of the box" ideas which help keep the team on their toes, and provide new insight. 

Ben has always had a passion for working with people and serving those who aren’t always served by others. It was early in his career that he realized the only way most people save for retirement is through their employer’s retirement plan, if that is even an option. These people have questions that too often go unanswered. His solution – work with business owners to provide better options in retirement planning for the benefit of their employees and their business, and in doing such, help more people retire with a greater level of knowledge and confidence in their investments.

  1. Why did you start investment advising?

I started in this industry because I love people. Plain and simple. I get to talk with people every day, I get to counsel people on matters that are extremely sensitive and extremely joyous. Working with individuals and employers allows me to make a difference for people that I would have never met otherwise.

  1. What do you love about your job?

The energy. Helping people come to that “ah ha!” moment with their finances. Often times advisors who are in my position try to make everything more complicated than it needs to be. I have always operated under the axiom, simpler is better. Helping people understand why they are doing things and getting them excited about doing them is the part of my job that I love the most.

  1. Outside of working after hours – what are your hobbies, what do you enjoy?

I enjoy spending time with my wife, daughter, and our dog Abby, a middle aged golden English Labrador who has gotten to good at begging for food and belly rubs. As for hobbies, I love working on my car, and projects around the house. I am absolutely a “do it yourself” type of person.  If I can figure out how to do it on my own, I am going to give it a try!
